The Zone Homework is open Monday–Wednesday from 4–7 p.m. The Zone also provides fun activities for the local youth, see the Saint Paul Public Library website for more detail. The Zone Homework Help Center is always packed with children who need extra help with school work. Participating as a Homework Help Center tutor provides much-needed help to the local Dayton's Bluff youth. Metro State alumni can assist as general tutors, helping students of all ages with reading, math, computer literacy, and other general homework concerns. The First Saturday Science workshops cover a wide range of diverse science topics to engage and teach youth in the community while providing a safe space to learn and engage with university students, faculty, and staff. The First Saturday Science program aims to engage the community's younger learners in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields with active participation and hands-on activities. The Metro State University Youth Campus Visits are an excellent opportunity to give back to the community and cultivate and explore the interests of the future generation. Alumni can also participate in the student panel to give their perspective on life after university education and careers. We are seeking Metro State University alumni to design and teach classes and assist as a chaperone or classroom assistant. The students arrive in the mornings, participate in a campus tour, and attend fun classes designed and taught by Metro State University students, faculty, alumni, staff, and community members. The campus visits take place on Fridays from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Metro State University alumni can assist in the Middle and High School Outreach programs as chaperones, classroom assistance, designing, and lead fun age-appropriate workshops. The Literacy Corps is currently recruiting Metro State alumni to provide literacy tutoring at inner-city schools, libraries and learning centers.
