Maggie Simpson In The Force Awakens From Its’ Nap is basically a promotional short to celebrate Star Wars Day and shouldn’t really be put in the same category as Longest Daycare or Playdate With Destiny. I also really liked the end credits images merging Star Wars with The Simpsons with the nice music to go along with it. The references and homages are nicely done, even using some Disney references in this as well like the Seven Dwarfs. The way they do use the Star Wars universe in this does lead to a lot of very funny and very enjoyable bits of animation and I’ll give them points for not including an obvious Baby Yoda reference or making him the main Star Wars character in this, instead having it be BB8 which I love BB8, I’ll gladly take seeing more BB8 in anything since it seems like he’s kind of been pushed aside since Mandalorian came out. Even the animation as a whole isn’t really anything too grand and epic like the two shorts, it’s clearly using that same TV animation style from the series and it’s good animation, I’m not complaining about that at all. Maggie loses her pacifier, BB8 helps her get it back, Maggie then fights Baby Gerald as Darth Maul….and that’s it, there’s not really a whole lot there storywise and in the end, it makes this seem kind of pointless in the long run.īut I will be absolutely fair, I think the overall point of this was to celebrate Star Wars and pay respect to the franchise as a whole and not be considered something on the same levels as Daycare and Playdate. Maybe the other biggest flaw is that there really is not a whole lot here storywise. There is still a lot of new animation but this is the first of these shorts that recycles animation from past shorts. You can definitely see them recycling animation in this one like there are parts clearly taking from Longest Daycare and reanimated to include Star Wars elements. Unlike Daycare and Playdate, this is an incredibly short short film coming in just at 3 minutes while Playdate With Destiny and Longest Daycare were about more than half the length of this.Īnd unlike the previous two shorts, there are a few more flaws with this than there were with the other two shorts but at the same time, I do really enjoy this short for what it is, it’s a promotional short to celebrate Star Wars and a fairly enjoyable one at the most. I’ve been really loving the Maggie Simpson shorts, The Longest Daycare is great and last year’s Playdate With Destiny was really well done and I’m happy to see Disney experimenting more with The Simpsons even if it is just in small little shorts like this. This promotional short is the first of several from The Simpsons that Disney+ will be released throughout the year, to tie in with the service’s marquee brands and titles.įollows the plot, in a daycare far, far away… but still in Springfield, Maggie is on an quest for her stolen pacifier, getting from face with young Padawans, Sith Lords, familiar droids, Rebel scum, and an ultimate battle against the Dark Side in the Star Wars galaxy. It was released on on streaming service Disney+ as part of “Star Wars Day”. Maggie Simpson in “The Force Awakens from Its Nap” or simply The Force Awakens from Its Nap is an animated short film based on the television series The Simpsons and spoofing the Star Wars media franchise.
